Choose from which model you want to visualize the data. Currently available are the regional models ICON-EU and ICON-D2.
ICON-EU covers the whole of Europe with a horizontal resolution of ~ 7 km.
ICON-D2 covers the whole of Germany, Austria and Swizerland as well as parts of the neighbouring countries with a horizontal resolution of ~ 2.1 km.

The different models are re-run by DWD every few hours. Here you have to choose the time of the creation of the forecast. You can choose the most recent time for the most accurate forecast results but keep in mind that for ICON-EU the forecast time span depends on the initialization time (See DWD - ICON Database Reference Manual (Chapter 9) for details)

Choose the variable (output fields of the model) which you want to visualize. Time invariant fields are not available until now. See DWD - ICON Database Reference Manual (Chapter 6) for an extended description of the available output fields.

The level type refers to the vertical coordinate system used to represent the atmosphere in the model. For the level type 'pressure' there are the atmospheric layers in hPa (e.g. from 1000 hPa at sea level to 200 hPa in the most upper layer) given. The level type 'model' refers to the layers originally used in the model run which utilizes a SLEVE coordinate (Leuenberger et al., 2010). Here a point in one layer is on different heights above sea level depending on the height of Earth's surface at that point (see the source for more details).

Here you have to choose a level which tells which layer you want to plot. See in the help of Level Type for more details. If level type 'model' was chosen the value after the '—' gives the height of the model layer in meters above sea level for zero topography height. For the level type 'pressure' the values are given in hectopascal (1000 hPa is roughly sea level).

The forecast time defines the time since the initialization of the model. ICON-D2 ranges from 0 to 48 h since the initialization while ICON-EU ranges from 0 to 51 or 120 h depending on the initialization time.
