DWD ICON Weather Forecasts & Holiday Climate Matching
Open data visualization for weather forecasts and climate exploration
ICON Viewer
Interactive visualization of ICON-D2 and ICON-EU weather forecast data from the German Weather Service (DWD). Generate map plots of temperature, wind, precipitation, cloud cover and dozens of other atmospheric variables across pressure and model levels.
ICON-D2 covers central Europe at 2.1 km resolution with forecasts up to 48 hours. ICON-EU covers all of Europe at 7 km resolution with forecasts up to 120 hours. Data updates multiple times daily following DWD model runs.

Find your ideal European travel destination by matching historical climate data to your preferences. Compare over 5000 cities across 46 countries by temperature, sunshine, precipitation, wind, humidity, sea temperature, daylight hours and more.
Each result includes a detailed climograph, nearby airport and beach distances, population data, and optional flight prices. Based on ERA5 reanalysis data averaged over 1994–2025.

meteo-insight.eu provides free, browser-based tools for exploring meteorological data — no downloads, no registration, no programming required. Both tools are built on authoritative open data sources used by researchers and forecasters worldwide.
The ICON models (Icosahedral Nonhydrostatic) are the operational numerical weather prediction models of the German Weather Service. They are run several times a day and provide high-resolution forecasts that are freely available through the DWD Open Data server.
ERA5 is the fifth-generation atmospheric reanalysis dataset produced by the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) and distributed through the Copernicus Climate Data Store. It provides consistent, global climate data from 1940 to the present, making it the standard reference for climate normals.
About
meteo-insight.eu is a personal project by Benedikt Giebl. The ICON Viewer was built to make DWD weather forecast data explorable without any programming skills. Climatch came from the frustration of searching for holiday destinations that actually match your weather preferences.
