About the ICON Weather Forecast Viewer
This tool provides interactive map visualizations of numerical weather prediction data from the German Weather Service (Deutscher Wetterdienst, DWD). Select a model, initialization time, atmospheric variable, level, and forecast hour to generate a plot — no downloads or programming required.
ICON-D2
High-resolution regional model covering Germany, Austria and Switzerland at approximately 2.1 km horizontal resolution. Provides forecasts up to 48 hours ahead. Ideal for detailed, short-range weather analysis.
ICON-EU
European-scale model covering all of Europe at approximately 7 km horizontal resolution. Provides forecasts up to 120 hours (5 days) ahead, depending on initialization time.
Available variables include temperature, wind speed and direction, precipitation, relative humidity, cloud cover, pressure, CAPE, and many more. Data is available on pressure levels, model levels, and single levels. Both models are updated several times daily following DWD model runs at 00, 06, 12, and 18 UTC. All data is sourced from the DWD Open Data server.
